@LinkinParkPwnsU definetly two of the most influential and timeless musicians…but definetly not the best…there are many amazing musicians out there…and no1 can really claim a top spot…each one’s style comes 1st place in their own way

yes, you are right so the Ultimate Legend Award should be given to Kaye or Wilson.

Wait, what about Pet Sounds? That came out one year prior to Sgt. Pepper and that featured Carol Kaye playing Brian Wison’s bass lines which at some points, in some songs like “Here Today,” “God Only Knows” and “I Just Wasn’t Made for These Times” feel a little more like the main melody. I would say Wilson was the first to strive the bass from the root function.

I agree that Paul is one of the most important bassist. I think you can also add Brian Wilson to the list of great bass players.

“Paul McCartney was the first rock bassist to develop a style that completely transcended the root-bound function of the instrument…. Where would rock bass be today without the bouncy melodicism of “With a Little Help From My Friends,” “Lovely Rita,” and “A Day in the Life”? Great feel, articulation, note choices, tone. ”

Nah… I’d say John Entwistle of The Who, or John Paul Jones are more important than him at bass, although McCartney is probably one of the most important vocalists.
